Our MA in Philosophy enables you to achieve a deep understanding of contemporary philosophical debates and gain advanced research and communication skills. You’ll explore a range of topics related to current ethical and social concerns and learn how to connect philosophical research to professional roles outside the university. This puts you in a strong position to enter a range of exciting careers, including research-based careers, or to apply for further study through a PhD. You’ll join a supportive research community with diverse interests and expertise. This means you can choose from modules ranging across aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, feminist philosophy, philosophy of mind, and political philosophy, with a particular focus on contemporary research at the intersections of these areas. To prepare you for the dissertation, you’ll learn how to plan and manage large research projects before developing your dissertation proposal. You’ll then have regular one-to-one meetings with your supervisor to help you develop and complete your dissertation project. Throughout the programme you’ll develop a range of highly valued professional skills, including collaboration, effective communication and problem solving, and make meaningful connections between academic work and professional practice outside universities.
