About Bachelor in Photography BA Honours

The BA (Hons) Photography programme is split into three full-time years, with an optional placement year that can be taken after the second year. In the first year students build a solid technical base, learning analogue and digital processes, colour theory and visual communication. The second year expands into specialised practice, critical theory and collaborative projects, while the optional placement year offers professional experience in commercial, editorial or museum settings. The final year focuses on independent research, a major exhibition and preparation for professional work.

Week by week students work in fully furnished studios and darkrooms, experiment with emerging media such as CGI, undertake field shoots, and engage in critique sessions that develop a reflective practice. Graduates move into roles such as commercial photographer, photojournalist, picture editor, museum curator, freelance visual content creator or continue to postgraduate study.
