This programme prepares students to promote physical activity, sport, and wellness for young people of all abilities in diverse settings. The MA in Physical Activity Studies requires 36 credits, distributed across core courses, specialization-specific coursework, and field-based experiences. Students complete a capstone project or field placement aligned with their chosen specialization.

Graduates pursue roles as adapted physical education teachers, sport-based youth development leaders, athletic directors, and health and physical education administrators in schools, nonprofit organizations, and community agencies.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and submit official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a personal essay, a résumé, and a completed graduate application with a $60 fee. International applicants must provide a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member organization.

The programme totals about 36 credit hours. On-campus in Garden City, Long Island, and online; full-time and part-time options available; typical duration is two years. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 78% of applicants.

The institution began as Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn in 1863 and was chartered as Adelphi College in 1896. It moved to Garden City in 1929 and became the first private coeducational institution of higher education on Long Island. Today, Adelphi is organized into eight schools and colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the Willumstad School of Business, the College of Nursing and Public Health, the Derner School of Psychology and the School of Social Work.
