Master in Physics and astronomy

Pedagogical University of Cracow offers a Physics with Astronomy master's program, running two years across four semesters and taught in English. Since 2014, the university has run these Physics with Astronomy courses for students from abroad who want to study in Kraków, offered at both undergraduate (Bachelor's-equivalent) and postgraduate (Master's) levels. The physics side of the program covers the range of modern physics, while the astronomy side builds a foundation in modern astronomy and astrophysics across the wavelength spectrum and across scales, together with classes in modern data analysis, data mining, and statistics that the program notes are applicable well beyond astronomy. Students also take classes on variable stars and asteroseismology, taught by staff connected to the university's Mt. Suhora Astronomical Observatory. Students gain hands-on observational experience at the Mt. Suhora Observatory, located about 70 km south of Kraków in the Gorce Mountains, and also make use of the university's high-energy laser and materials science laboratories. Students who meet eligibility criteria may take part in Study Away programs. Topics covered include the solar system and exoplanets, stellar physics, stellar oscillations, astronomical instruments, cosmology, variable stars, data mining, asteroseismology, astrophysical models, numerical methods in astronomy, and the Galaxy and extragalactic astrophysics. Yearly tuition is EUR 1,000. At the master's level, students build on undergraduate physics and astronomy training with more specialized coursework and continued access to observatory-based fieldwork, positioning graduates for further doctoral study or research and technical roles that draw on both physics and astronomical data analysis.
