Overview

AWAKE is the world’s first proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration experiment, utilizing 400 GeV proton bunches from the CERN SPS to create plasma wakefields with significantly higher amplitudes than conventional accelerators. These wakefields then accelerate externally injected electrons up to several GeVs in a compact medium.

Program Highlights

The recent AWAKE Run 2b has achieved high-impact results, such as accelerating an electron beam to 2 GeV in a single stage. The ongoing Run 2c aims to build on these advancements by introducing a second plasma channel and electron source, enhancing beam quality and energy outcomes.

Research Opportunities
