Master in Physics

The Master of Science in Physics at the University of Siegen is a research-oriented programme spanning four semesters. During the first year, students select from a range of lectures and courses covering three topical research areas: particle physics, quantum optics, and solid-state physics. More specifically, research groups work on experimental high-energy physics and astroparticle physics, theoretical particle physics, experimental quantum and nano-optics, theoretical quantum optics and quantum information theory, and experimental solid-state physics. The second year is devoted to a project within one of these research groups, leading to the Master's thesis. The thesis aims to produce a contribution to current research in theoretical or experimental physics, and results are regularly published in international scientific journals. The programme does not require knowledge of the German language, and admission is possible each year in both spring and autumn. The department has around 400 students and 16 professors. Researchers participate in numerous international collaborations, giving students direct exposure to active research problems from an early stage.
