Physiotherapy is a health profession concerned with restoring and maintaining movement and physical function after injury, illness, or disability. This bachelor's program in Physiotherapy is taught in English at Universita degli Studi di Ferrara, in Ferrara, Italy, and runs for 3 years. Students typically study human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics as a foundation, alongside clinical subjects such as musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Coursework often covers therapeutic exercise, manual therapy techniques, and the assessment methods physiotherapists use to evaluate a patient's movement, strength, and functional limitations. Subjects such as pathology, pharmacology relevant to rehabilitation, and the principles of evidence-based practice are commonly included, along with training in how to design and adjust individualized treatment plans. Supervised clinical placements are a central part of physiotherapy education, giving students direct experience working with patients in hospital rehabilitation units, outpatient clinics, and sports medicine settings under the guidance of qualified physiotherapists. Communication skills are also emphasized, since physiotherapists work closely with patients over extended treatment periods and coordinate with physicians and other health professionals. Graduates are prepared to work as physiotherapists in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private clinics, and sports organizations, helping patients recover mobility and manage chronic conditions. Some go on to specialize in areas such as pediatric physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, or neurological rehabilitation, while others pursue further study or move into research and teaching. As a regulated health profession, physiotherapy graduates generally need to meet licensing requirements in the country where they plan to practice, and English-taught training broadens access to this qualification for international students.
