About Master in Planetary Health (PH)

The MSc Planetary Health at the University of Bonn is a four-semester interdisciplinary programme structured around three specialisations: Environmental Health, Human Health, and Societal Health. Regardless of which specialisation a student chooses, they are required to take modules in the other two areas and in a shared cross-disciplinary area. From the outset, students work in interdisciplinary project groups with peers from a range of academic backgrounds. The curriculum covers methods used in research and policy practice, including machine learning, causal inference, spatial data analysis and GIS with R, analytical epidemiology, satellite remote sensing, probabilistic programming, and integrated assessment modelling. These methods are taught within the context of climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, and public health. The first semester consists of compulsory courses establishing a shared foundation in Planetary Health. In the second and third semesters, students deepen their specialisation through elective courses while also taking courses across the other two specialisation areas. The fourth semester is devoted to the Master's thesis, written within the chosen specialisation. The programme is connected to the University of Bonn's Excellence Cluster PhenoRob and two Collaborative Research Centres. The thesis can be conducted within these research networks. The programme is taught entirely in English and starts in the winter semester. It is offered at the University of Bonn, located in Bonn, Germany.
