This programme offers a distinctive, interdisciplinary approach that bridges the gap between political theory and the practical realities of the education sector. By combining these two fields, students gain a unique vantage point on how societal power structures, policy-making, and ideological shifts directly impact learning environments and childhood development. The curriculum is intentionally designed to move beyond abstract concepts, encouraging students to engage with live political actors—including local councils, MPs, and community organisations—to apply their knowledge to current, real-world debates.

A core strength of this course is its focus on employability and professional development. Students are supported by a dedicated placement team, facilitating opportunities to gain experience in settings ranging from local government to non-profit organisations and global corporate entities. The programme is delivered through a block teaching model, allowing for a focused, immersive learning experience where students study one module at a time, fostering deeper connections with tutors and peers.

Research-Led and Justice-Focused

The teaching is deeply rooted in contemporary research, with specific emphasis on decolonising political narratives, gender studies, and the socio-political construction of childhood. Students are invited to critically interrogate the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that graduates emerge not only with professional skills but with a nuanced understanding of how to advocate for a more equitable and sustainable society.
