About the Program

The Practical Nurse Diploma is a two- or three-year on-campus program. It is offered in person at Red Deer Campus. Theory courses are also available online. Online theory includes in-person labs at Campus Alberta Central locations. Students complete hands-on labs to develop practical skills. They take part in clinical placements across Alberta. Placements occur in long-term care, acute care, and community settings. Students practice patient care, take vital signs, use medications, and perform health assessments. Real-world scenarios help build confidence and competence. The program prepares graduates to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam.

Two- or three-year program with in-person theory, labs, and clinicals; includes Spring/Summer term coursework; three clinical placements and a final preceptorship.

Graduates become Licensed Practical Nurses after passing the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam.

High school completion with 60% in ELA 30-1 or 70% in ELA 30-2, 50% in MATH 30-1 or 30-2, or 60% in Math 30 Applied, and 60% in BIO 30. International students must meet English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in each band, TOEFL iBT 92, Duolingo 130, or Oxford ELLT 8.
