The University of Nicosia started the first medical program in Cyprus in 2011 by offering the St George’s, University of London Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduate-entry program. The University is the largest private university, and the first medical school, in Cyprus, which is also ranked one of the safest countries in the world for students. The university attracts a large number of international students from around the world each year due to its numerous Health degree program offerings. The Medical School at the University of Nicosia encourages students to take part in scientific activities as an extracurricular activity. Programme Profile

The University of Nicosia offers a Doctoral Programme in Public Administration leading to a Ph.D. in Public Administration. The programme is designed to provide scientific knowledge at the highest academic level and to prepare students for professional careers in higher education, scientific research and public administration (Civil Service, Semi-Governmental Organizations, Local Government (Municipalities and Communities), Public Organizations and Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations).

The aim of the PhD programme in Public Administration is to produce scholars who will conduct cutting-edge research, propose innovative and practicable solutions and become leaders in the field of public administration. The programme guides students in the use of state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research methods to generate and apply knowledge at both theoretical and practical levels.

Doctoral candidates’ research is directed to areas of direct interest to public administration, such as strategic analysis and planning, public programmes, e-government, administrative planning and organisation of public services, public policy-making and human resource management. The programme is structured in such a way as to enable students to specialise in areas of particular interest, building on their knowledge and/or experience in public administration.

Career Prospects

Doctoral students who successfully complete the programme will have the opportunity to: Hold a faculty position at an institution of higher education Play a leadership role in the field of education, e.g. an administrative position at the level of a school or Ministry of Education and Culture Work as a senior manager in departments of the Ministry of Education and Culture (e.g.

Pedagogical Institute, Programme Development Service) Take up a senior management/academic/advisory role in private educational institutions, research centres or consultancy centres. A doctoral student who successfully completes his/her studies may pursue post-doctoral studies at a higher education institution in the country or abroad.
