Nursing demands a unique intersection of clinical precision, scientific inquiry, and profound human empathy. At its core, the profession requires practitioners who can navigate the complexities of pathophysiology while remaining anchored in the lived experience of patients facing their most vulnerable moments.

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult Health) at the University of Plymouth is built to foster this dual capacity. It moves beyond standard clinical training by immersing students in a diverse range of environments—from acute stroke units and gynaecology wards to community rehabilitation and haematology settings. This programme is designed for those who seek to understand nursing as a holistic, multi-faceted discipline that encompasses leadership, research, and patient advocacy.

Developing the Resilient Practitioner

The curriculum emphasizes the evolution of the student nurse into an autonomous professional. You will be challenged to think critically about the broader health system, the social determinants of patient health, and the importance of person-centred care. Distinctive features include:

• Practice-Based Learning: A cumulative approach that increases your responsibility and confidence over three years, ensuring you graduate ready for the demands of the NHS.
• Holistic Focus: Training that encourages you to see the "whole picture," integrating emotional resilience with technical expertise.
• Professional Community: Access to peer-assisted learning schemes, course leadership opportunities, and a wide array of university societies that contribute to your development as a rounded individual.
