Railway Systems Engineering prepares students to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and technology that underpin rail transport, including track systems, rolling stock, signaling, and control systems. Coursework combines civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering fundamentals with rail-specific topics such as track design and maintenance, train dynamics, traction systems, and railway signaling and safety systems. Students study how railway networks are planned and operated, including scheduling, capacity planning, and the interaction between infrastructure and vehicles, as well as the safety standards that govern rail operations. Laboratory and project-based coursework gives students practical exposure to the engineering systems involved in modern rail networks, from mechanical components of rolling stock to the electronic systems used for signaling and train control.
