Bachelor in English and Sociology BSc

Tuition costs 21,500 GBP per year.

If you are a student who wants to decode how language shapes our social reality, this programme is designed to bridge the gap between creative expression and critical sociological insight. You will move beyond the classroom to examine how written and spoken communication influence power structures, inequality, and human connection in the 21st century.

This course is built for those who want to examine everything from seventeenth-century literature to contemporary social media discourses, while simultaneously applying robust sociological frameworks to issues like migration, health, race, and gender. By choosing this path, you gain the ability to dissect complex social challenges through both a linguistic and a systemic lens.

Applied Learning at Aston

The distinctive core of this programme is its focus on vocational relevance and the mandatory placement year. You will not just study theory; you will learn to apply it in professional environments—from journalism and marketing to public policy and the third sector. Students benefit from access to Adobe Creative Campus tools and research-led teaching from experts who are actively shaping discourse in linguistics and social justice. Whether you are analysing post-apocalyptic fiction or conducting empirical sociological research, the curriculum is structured to cultivate articulate, versatile, and highly employable communicators.
