Master in Social Worker

The deadline to apply for the Sep 2027 intake is Aug 31, 2027.

Taught from the state-of-the-art £139m Brooks building in central Manchester, this apprenticeship programme bridges the gap between academic theory and the complex, high-stakes reality of modern social care. It is a specialised route designed for existing employees who are ready to elevate their practice, gain eligibility for registration with Social Work England, and become advocates for social justice within their communities.

The curriculum is built around the core pillars of ethics, law, and human rights, ensuring that participants develop the resilience and analytical depth required to support vulnerable individuals effectively. By blending formal university education with workplace mentorship, the programme allows apprentices to apply fresh academic perspectives directly to their daily responsibilities. Whether navigating the complexities of safeguarding or evaluating global inequalities, the programme fosters a collaborative environment where practitioners learn to lead change and improve lives.

Integrated Professional Development

The programme's distinct value lies in its 'grow your own' ethos, supported by a university skills coach and a dedicated workplace mentor. This structure ensures that learning is never isolated from practice; instead, it is reinforced through case studies, work-based projects, and simulated practice sessions. By the end of the course, apprentices have not only gained a formal qualification but have also demonstrated the advanced skills in assessment, intervention, and evaluation necessary to thrive as a registered social work professional.
