Master in Sustainable Transition

Sustainable Transition is a fully online Master's programme offered by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management at Justus Liebig University Giessen. It focuses on sustainable agricultural and food systems and trains students to analyse sustainability trade-offs across multiple disciplines, understand transition processes in economic, legal, political, social, agricultural, and environmental terms, and develop solutions applicable to the private and public sectors. All courses and examinations are conducted online and can be taken remotely. Optional on-site block modules are available in Giessen during summer vacations for students who wish to attend in person. The programme runs over 4 semesters with intake in the winter semester and is structured around 11 mandatory core modules and 5 optional profile modules chosen from a diverse catalogue, followed by the Master's thesis. Core modules cover topics including transdisciplinary sustainability research, global food markets, sustainable food systems, international economics, climate change and economic development, resource economics, renewable energy transition, and food politics. The programme is based at Justus Liebig University Giessen in Gießen, Germany.
