Master in Theoretical Physics

The University of Wroclaw's two-year Master's program in Theoretical Physics is taught in English and provides advanced training across areas including classical and quantum gravity, modern astrophysics, quantum chromodynamics, high energy physics, quark-gluon plasma, neutrino physics, quantum mechanics, and machine learning applied to physics. The program is closely tied to research carried out at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, and students can join active research groups and take part in special projects alongside their coursework. Students enter with basic grounding in physics, mathematics, and programming, beginning with compulsory courses before moving into specialized electives. By the second semester, each student selects a thesis advisor, who helps shape their academic and research direction and guides them toward lectures that support their development as researchers, whether they are heading toward further academic work or a research career. The program is structured to give students flexibility, letting them build a course of study around either a broad theoretical focus or a more specialized track, with close mentorship from faculty throughout. A notable feature of the program is the option to apply to the PhD School at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, where all doctoral students receive scholarships. The Theoretical Physics master's program has been running for a decade and draws students from countries including Canada, Germany, India, Italy, and Japan, among others.
