Therapeutic Recreation

This is a two-year full-time on-campus diploma program. Students learn how to use recreation to improve health, functional ability and quality of life. The curriculum includes assessment, treatment planning, activity modification and teamwork in health care settings. Practical experience is gained through three supervised practicums.

Graduates work as recreational therapists, recreation programmers, activity directors or life enrichment coordinators in clinical or community-based health care settings.

Grade 12 or equivalent. English language requirement. Applicants must provide proof of PART, TLR®, N95 respirator testing, Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, immunization records, and WHMIS GHS certification before starting practicums. Alternative admission available via ACCUPLACER© scores or post-secondary credits.
