Organised, outgoing and active individuals who enjoy working with people of all abilities and have completed Grade 12 are well-suited to this programme. A passion for health, recreation and community service, together with the desire to help others set goals and develop skills, forms a solid foundation.

Graduates move into roles such as recreation therapist, activity director, programme coordinator or recreation assistant within hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centres, mental-health and addiction programmes, or public health agencies. Employers include health regions, provincial and federal health services, and private recreation providers.

The two-year diploma blends theoretical study of human growth, development and sociology with practical experience. Core learning covers assessment of needs, development of individual treatment plans, documentation, facilitation techniques and teamwork in multidisciplinary health settings, reinforced by three supervised practicums.
