Master in Transition Management

Transition Management at Justus Liebig University Giessen is a four-semester interdisciplinary master's programme examining the economic, political, legal, social, agricultural, and environmental dimensions of change in transition and emerging economies. The group of countries covered includes successor states of the former Soviet Union, countries of Eastern and South Eastern Europe, transition economies in Asia such as China and Vietnam, and emerging economies in Latin America and Africa. The programme is established across five faculties of Justus Liebig University Giessen and draws on additional input from the Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU). The curriculum consists of eight mandatory core modules and six optional profile modules, plus a work placement (or two additional profile modules), and the master's thesis. Core modules include empirical research methods, international law in transition, economic development theory and practice, power and democracy, economics in agriculture and food industries, and global food markets, among others. Profile modules allow students to deepen expertise in areas such as agricultural and food policy, organic farming, landscape ecology, food sociology, and international economics. The programme begins in the winter semester. Graduates qualify for senior positions in private and public sector management, public administration, academia, and international technical and economic cooperation. The programme is based at Justus Liebig University Giessen in Gießen, Germany.
