Master in Veterinary science

Veterinary science at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, known as SGGW, is a master's programme taught in English over 11 semesters. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's mission is to provide a high-quality teaching environment and research-based education, preparing veterinary science graduates able to handle a wide variety of health, welfare, and management problems in farm and companion animals. The faculty also undertakes research to support its teaching process, alongside postgraduate and continuing education, and provides veterinary care for all species of animals through its own clinics. The curriculum aims to give students the professional title of lekarz weterynarii, known in English as veterinary surgeon or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and builds a strong foundation in veterinary medical sciences so that graduates are well versed in its fundamentals and able to meet professional challenges throughout their careers. The programme consists of 75 obligatory courses and electives, with the diploma awarded after passing all exams. Each academic year is divided into two semesters, with a winter and a summer break, and students take roughly 860-hour classes, worth 60 ECTS credits, per year, making the programme an intensive one. In the first year, students build a basic understanding of the life sciences underpinning veterinary medicine and become familiar with veterinary practice. Veterinary science more broadly covers animal anatomy, physiology, pathology, and clinical treatment across species, alongside the public health and food safety dimensions of animal care. Graduates typically pursue careers in veterinary clinics treating farm and companion animals, research institutions, and continuing education roles, drawing on the strong scientific foundation and clinical training that the SGGW programme provides across its eleven semesters of study.
