Investigating the complex chemical composition of shellfish to determine heavy metal and arsenic speciation serves as the focal point of the final year research project, an endeavor that earned the Syngenta Prize for excellence in practical application. This chemistry programme bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial reality, providing students with the technical proficiency required to operate advanced testing instruments like liquid chromatography systems.

Students are immersed in a hands-on learning environment where laboratory lessons are central to the curriculum, fostering the independence and analytical skills necessary for professional roles in sectors such as food safety, toy testing, and hardlines verification. With a supportive network of technicians and faculty, learners gain experience that translates directly into careers at global testing firms like Intertek.

Practical Industrial Alignment

• Direct application of analytical science to real-world safety testing.
• Focus on instrumentation and report generation in professional lab settings.
• Opportunities for high-achieving students to engage in award-winning research projects.
