The programme runs over three academic years. In the first year you complete a series of core modules that introduce youth work theory, policy, safeguarding and communication, alongside an assessed professional practice placement of 200 hours. The second year builds on this foundation with a further practice placement of 300 hours and adds modules covering contemporary issues, theory and psychology of youth and community. In the final year you undertake a senior-level practice placement, a dissertation and modules on management, equality and anti-oppressive practice.

Youth work and community practice examines how young people engage with society, how services support their development and how agencies collaborate to address issues such as mental health, sport, justice and safeguarding. The course blends academic study with hands-on placements, allowing you to translate research into practice in schools, youth centres or community organisations.

It is aimed at students with A-levels, BTEC diplomas or equivalent who wish to work professionally with young people.
