Master in Animal Science

This Master's programme provides the knowledge and skills needed for a career in animal science, with a focus on domestic animals. Students can specialise in one of the programme's main areas: ethology-animal welfare-animal protection, genetics-breeding, or nutrition-feeding, while gaining a holistic understanding of domestic animals in a sustainable society.

The programme is linked to ongoing research, giving students access to research facilities such as the Swedish Livestock Research Centre. In the first semester, students study animal science theory and research methods and the relationships between animal needs, behaviour, environment and welfare. In the second semester, students choose between Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, or Animal Genetics and Breeding. The programme concludes with an independent Master's thesis project of 30 credits.

Graduates work in academia (including PhD study), research and product development, animal nutrition, breeding management, or as animal welfare officers.
