About Master in Applied & Environmental Geoscience (AEG)

Applications are due 30 April for all applicants, and tuition fees are 3,000 EUR per year.

Applied and Environmental Geoscience is a research-oriented Master's programme focused on identifying and solving environmental problems, with particular attention to subsurface issues such as drinking water contamination, unsustainable resource use, and the effects of climate and land-use change on soil and water quality. The programme draws on classical natural sciences and modern technology, covering hydrogeology, environmental modelling, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, and environmental physics. Spanning four semesters and beginning each winter semester, the programme consists of five compulsory modules, ten elective modules, and a Master's thesis. In the first semester, students take compulsory modules in Groundwater Modelling, Environmental Chemistry, and Global Change. From the second semester onward, students choose one of three specialisations: Hydrogeology, Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Microbiology, or Environmental Physics. Each specialisation includes three mandatory classes, ranging from Groundwater Modelling 2 and Remediation of Contaminated Sites in Hydrogeology to Atmospheric Physics and Climate Dynamics in Environmental Physics. Compulsory modules in Scientific Practice and Scientific Presentation develop practical and communication skills throughout the programme. Students are expected to bring a solid background in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Prior training in geosciences or environmental sciences is helpful but not required; the ability to work independently is considered important and is developed further through the programme's structure. This programme is offered at the University of Tübingen in Tübingen, Germany.

This program's tuition is 30% below the typical master's in Germany.
