Architecture is the discipline of designing and planning buildings and the spaces around them, combining technical knowledge of structures and materials with aesthetic and spatial reasoning. Students typically study architectural design studios, building technology, structural systems, history of architecture, and urban design, learning to translate a brief into drawings, models, and construction documents. Coursework often includes computer-aided design, sustainability principles, and site analysis, alongside studio critiques that develop a student's design vocabulary. Graduates pursue careers as architects, urban planners, interior designers, or work in construction management and real estate development, and many continue toward professional licensure after further practical training. This bachelor program runs 4 years and is delivered in English at Kadir Has University, located in Istanbul, Turkey. Studying architecture in an international city such as Istanbul gives students exposure to a layered urban fabric spanning Byzantine, Ottoman, and contemporary building traditions, offering practical case studies alongside theoretical coursework. English-medium instruction also prepares graduates to work across international design firms and collaborate with clients and colleagues worldwide. Across the 4-year curriculum, students generally advance from foundational design exercises to more complex, independent studio projects, culminating in a final thesis or capstone design. The program aims to build both the conceptual and technical skills needed to practice architecture, including an understanding of how buildings respond to climate, culture, and regulation. Overall, the field suits students interested in a career that blends creative design work with rigorous technical problem solving in the built environment.
