Architecture trains students to design buildings and spaces, combining technical knowledge of construction and materials with creative design thinking and an understanding of how people use built environments. Coursework typically includes architectural design studio, building technology and construction, structural systems, architectural history and theory, urban design, and computer-aided design and modeling, with studio work forming the core of the curriculum throughout the degree. Students develop design proposals ranging from small structures to larger urban projects, presenting and defending their work through drawings, physical models, and digital renderings in studio critiques. Programs generally address sustainability, building codes, and site analysis as part of the design process. Graduates pursue careers as architects, urban designers, interior designers, and construction project coordinators, often requiring further licensing exams or professional registration depending on the country of practice. This program is a 4 year bachelor's degree at Bahçeşehir University in İstanbul, Turkey, taught fully in English, supporting collaboration with international design references and English-language technical standards used across the profession. İstanbul offers a distinctive architectural context, layering Byzantine, Ottoman, and contemporary buildings across a rapidly developing urban landscape, which gives architecture students real examples of historic preservation alongside new construction to study. Over the four years, students move from foundational design and drafting skills toward increasingly complex studio projects, culminating in a final design thesis that demonstrates their architectural and technical competence.
