Architecture is the discipline of designing buildings and the spaces around them, combining technical knowledge of construction and structural principles with attention to aesthetics, function, and how people use built environments. Undergraduate study typically includes design studio courses, architectural history and theory, building technology, structural systems, and computer-aided design, alongside coursework in materials and construction methods. Studio-based project work is central to architectural education, with students developing design proposals that are presented and critiqued throughout their studies. As students advance, coursework often incorporates urban design, sustainability, and specialized building types, building toward more complex design projects. Graduates typically pursue careers as architects, architectural designers, urban planners, or work in related fields such as construction management and interior design, often continuing toward professional licensure after graduation, depending on national requirements. The discipline connects closely to engineering, art, and social science, since architects must balance structural feasibility with the needs of the people who will use a building. This bachelor's program in Architecture is offered at Izmir Institute of Technology in İzmir, Turkey, and takes 4 years to complete on a full-time basis. Instruction is delivered in English, supporting engagement with international architectural literature, design references, and software commonly used in the profession. İzmir, located on Turkey's Aegean coast, has a long architectural and urban history, offering students a setting where studio work can draw on a mix of historic and contemporary built environments across the city and surrounding region.
