Architecture combines design, engineering, and cultural studies to train students in planning and creating buildings and spaces. Typical coursework includes architectural design studios, structural systems, building materials and construction methods, history of architecture, and computer-aided design. Students learn to develop projects from initial concept sketches through detailed technical drawings, balancing aesthetic considerations with structural feasibility, environmental performance, and regulatory requirements. This 4-year bachelor's program is offered by Izmir Democracy University in İzmir, Turkey, with instruction delivered in English. Studio-based learning is central to the program, with students presenting and defending design projects in regular critiques. Coursework often includes urban design principles and sustainability topics, encouraging students to consider how buildings interact with their surrounding environment and communities. Graduates typically enter careers as architects, urban designers, or building consultants, often continuing toward professional licensure after completing required practical experience. Some pursue further study in specialized areas such as urban planning, landscape architecture, or interior design. The program's location in İzmir, a city with a mix of historic and modern architecture along Turkey's Aegean coast, offers students direct exposure to varied building traditions and urban development patterns.
