Computer Science is a bachelor's program taught in English at Libera Università di BOLZANO in Bolzano, Italy, over three years. This discipline covers the theoretical and practical foundations of computing, including how algorithms are designed, how data is structured and stored, and how software systems are built and operated. Students in this field typically study programming across multiple languages and paradigms, data structures and algorithms, and the fundamentals of computer architecture and operating systems. Coursework commonly covers databases, computer networks, and software engineering principles, alongside mathematical foundations such as discrete mathematics and logic that underpin much of computer science theory. Programs in this area often introduce students to artificial intelligence and machine learning fundamentals, as well as topics such as computer security and human-computer interaction. Students usually complete programming projects throughout their studies, building practical experience alongside theoretical coursework, and may specialize toward areas such as systems programming, web and mobile development, or data-oriented computing as they progress. Because computing underlies most modern industries, graduates of this discipline have access to a wide range of career paths, including software developer, systems analyst, database administrator, and roles in cybersecurity or IT infrastructure. Others move into data-related roles or continue into master's-level study in computer science, data science, or a specialized computing field. Bolzano's location in the multilingual South Tyrol region of northern Italy gives students access to a growing local technology sector alongside the broader academic environment of an English-taught computer science program.
