Master in Conducting

Conducting is a master's programme offered in English by the Academy of Music in Kraków, located in Kraków, Poland. The programme runs for four semesters. The Academy of Music in Kraków is one of the oldest music higher-education institutions in Poland and in Europe. It was founded as a Conservatory by the Music Society in Kraków, an organization established through the efforts of Duchess Marcelina Czartoryska and Władysław Żeleński in February 1888. For more than 120 years, the Academy's mission has centered on educating musicians as humanists within a broad context of musical culture and art, following the motto per academiam ad astra. This mission is carried out through teaching musical craftsmanship within a master-student relationship, supporting the versatile development of gifts and talents, cultivating sensitivity to beauty where tradition meets the contemporary and the past meets the present, opening students to varied forms of cultural activity including culture formation, and developing artistic taste alongside the ability to evaluate cultural phenomena. Conducting as a discipline trains musicians to lead orchestras, choirs, and ensembles, combining deep knowledge of scores and musical interpretation with the practical skills needed to direct a group of performers toward a unified artistic result. Students in a conducting programme typically study score analysis, rehearsal technique, ear training, and the historical and stylistic range of the orchestral and choral repertoire. Graduates pursue careers as conductors of orchestras, choirs, and opera companies, as well as roles in music education, ensemble direction, and cultural institutions that require strong leadership and interpretive skill in a musical setting.
