Master in Control of Renewable Energy Systems

Control of Renewable Energy Systems (EU-CORE) is a two-year, four-semester Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programme that trains engineers in the design of advanced control technologies for renewable energy systems. Unlike programmes focused on a single energy source, EU-CORE covers all main renewable energy sources and their associated control challenges, including wind energy systems, solar and hydrogen systems, energy storage management, and grid integration. The programme is delivered jointly by three partner universities: Ecole Centrale de Nantes in France, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg in Germany, and the University of Zagreb in Croatia. More than 15 additional associated partners from universities and companies worldwide complement this network. Students spend the first three semesters together across the three partner institutions, with the first semester at ECN focusing on wind energy and power systems, the second at UNIZG covering solar energy and smart grids, and the third at BTU addressing thermal energy, hydrogen, and storage. The fourth semester is devoted to a Master's thesis or internship, allowing students to specialise in a field of their choice. The academic curriculum is supplemented by soft skills and transferable skills training through winter and summer schools, covering languages, economics, project management, and sustainable development. The programme was selected under the Erasmus+ 2021-27 European Programmes of Excellence in 2024. It is administered with Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg located in Cottbus, Germany.
