The Renewable Energy Systems (RES) programme at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt is a three-semester Master's degree focused on planning, developing, and controlling energy systems. Rather than treating individual technologies in isolation, the programme emphasises the relationships between them and the structure of energy demand. The curriculum includes production-oriented energy systems, off-grid energy systems, urban area energy systems, numerical methods and simulation techniques, energy efficiency and energy management, system analysis and control, energy policies and markets, and hydrogen in energy technology and energy markets. Students complete lab work, participate in company and trade fair visits, and may work on thesis or project topics supplied by partner companies. The first semester addresses foundational energy knowledge and includes design work on urban area energy systems alongside individual project work. The second semester turns to off-grid and industrial energy systems, supplemented by a module on energy policy and markets. The third and final semester is devoted to the Master's thesis and accompanying seminars. A dual study option is available but not compulsory; students in the dual track complete two internships across the first two semesters.
