Bachelor in Dentistry

Dentistry trains students to diagnose and treat conditions of the teeth, gums, and mouth, integrating biomedical science with practical clinical training. Early coursework covers anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, along with dental-specific subjects such as oral pathology, periodontology, and restorative techniques, establishing the scientific basis for dental treatment. As the program advances, students undertake supervised clinical practice, working directly with patients to develop skills in procedures including fillings, extractions, and preventive dental care. The field requires both precise technical skill and sound scientific understanding, since dental procedures demand accuracy within a confined and sensitive area of the body. Students also study treatment planning, patient management, and professional ethics relevant to dental practice. Upon graduation, students typically pursue licensure to practice as general dentists in private clinics, hospital dental units, or public health settings, while others go on to specialized training in areas such as orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, or endodontics. The field offers a variety of career settings, from general practice to specialized clinical work. This bachelor's program runs for 5 years and is taught in English at Üsküdar University, located in İstanbul, Turkey. The five-year structure builds from foundational biomedical coursework toward increasingly clinical, patient-centered training, with supervised clinical practice forming a substantial part of the later years.
