Bachelor in Dentistry

Dentistry is the discipline focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and conditions affecting the teeth, gums, and oral cavity. Students study anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry alongside dentistry-specific subjects such as oral pathology, periodontology, endodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery, learning both the biological basis of oral health and the clinical techniques used to treat patients. Preclinical training typically takes place in simulation laboratories, where students practice procedures on models before progressing to supervised clinical work with patients in dental clinics. The curriculum also covers radiography, anesthesia, and infection control, preparing graduates to manage the full range of routine and complex dental procedures safely. Graduates commonly become licensed dentists working in private practice, public dental clinics, or hospital dental departments, while others pursue specialization in fields such as orthodontics or oral and maxillofacial surgery, or move into dental research and education. The multi-year structure of the program reflects the combination of scientific study and hands-on clinical competence required before independent practice. This program is delivered in English at Istanbul University, located in İstanbul, Turkey, and runs for 5 years.
