AGH University of Science and Technology

Master in Electrical engineering

Kraków, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków offers a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, taught in English over three semesters, or one and a half years, including the writing of the Master's thesis. The program is built around Smart Grids Technology, presenting the Smart Grids Technological Platform and its application to what the program describes as intelligent power systems, capable of integrating and controlling distributed energy sources and containers. Students learn how to optimize existing power systems using newer power electronics systems, along with informatics and telecommunications tools, aimed at maintaining safety and reliability for high-quality energy supply. Graduates are expected to be able to process and use energy efficiently, and to work on improving living standards within the energy market under competitive conditions. Because the program is taught in English, graduates also gain command of the specialist English terminology used across the European Smart Grid Technology Platform. Students with further questions about the program can contact the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, addressed to Professor Ryszard Sroka, Vice-Dean, by email at rysieks@agh.edu.pl. Electrical engineering programs focused on smart grids sit at the intersection of traditional power engineering and newer digital and communications technology, an area that has grown as electricity networks increasingly rely on distributed generation, automated monitoring, and integrated control systems rather than centralized, one-directional power distribution. Students in this field typically study power electronics, control systems, telecommunications, and informatics as they apply to energy networks. Graduates of a program like this commonly move into roles with power utilities, grid operators, energy consultancies, and companies developing smart grid technology, where the combination of power engineering and digital systems knowledge is directly applicable. Based in Kraków, this one-and-a-half-year program is delivered through the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering.
