English Language Teaching prepares students to teach English as a foreign or second language, combining study of English language and linguistics with education theory and classroom practice. Coursework typically includes English grammar and composition, phonetics and pronunciation, second language acquisition, curriculum design, assessment methods, and educational psychology, alongside supervised teaching practicum experience in school settings. Students learn to plan lessons, develop teaching materials, and adapt instruction for learners of different ages and proficiency levels, while gaining a theoretical understanding of how languages are learned and taught. The program blends academic study of English with practical training, giving graduates both subject expertise and pedagogical skill before they enter the classroom. Career outcomes typically include positions as English teachers in primary and secondary schools or private language institutes, with some graduates moving into curriculum development, teacher training, or further graduate study in applied linguistics or education. This bachelor's program is offered at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, a state university, and instruction is conducted in English over a 4-year duration, meaning the language of study doubles as the students' academic subject. Ankara's role as the national capital provides access to a range of schools and educational institutions for practicum placements. Throughout the 4-year program, students typically begin with foundational language and linguistics coursework before moving into specialized teaching methodology, culminating in supervised classroom teaching experience that applies accumulated theoretical and practical knowledge.
