English Language Teaching prepares students to teach English as a foreign or second language, combining coursework in linguistics, language acquisition theory, and teaching methodology with practical training in lesson planning, classroom management, and assessment. Students study the structure of the English language alongside pedagogical approaches, and typically complete supervised teaching practice in schools as part of the program. Coursework in linguistics covers the grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary systems of English, giving future teachers a detailed understanding of the language they will teach. Language acquisition courses examine how learners of different ages and backgrounds acquire a second language, informing the teaching methods covered elsewhere in the program. Students also study curriculum design and assessment, learning how to plan lessons and evaluate student progress in a language classroom. Practical training is a central part of the degree, with students typically observing experienced teachers before taking on supervised teaching responsibilities themselves in a school setting. Coursework often also addresses the use of technology and materials development in language teaching, preparing students for the varied resources used in modern classrooms. Graduates of English language teaching programs go on to work as English teachers in schools, language institutes, and other educational settings, applying both their linguistic knowledge and their classroom training. The program is taught in English and takes 4 years to complete, leading to a bachelor's degree from Ufuk University in Ankara, Turkey.
