About the Program

The Master's programme in English Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology is structured around eight compulsory basic modules and four focus modules, of which students select two as specialisations. The basic modules are skill-oriented and cover translation, academic writing, media, digital, professional, cultural, and practical skills, combining theoretical knowledge with application and professional orientation. The three available focus module areas are Digital English Linguistics, covering digital research methods and current topics in digital linguistics; English Literatures, addressing literatures and cultures across a broad range of anglophone and formerly colonised countries, including theories and media-oriented approaches; and Comparing Societies, Politics and Cultures in Anglophone Countries, which uses comparative social science methods to examine similarities and differences across anglophone nations. Students write their master's thesis within one of their chosen specialisations. Courses are taught in small groups through seminars, academic exercise sessions, and colloquiums. The programme runs over four semesters beginning in the winter semester. The programme is offered at Chemnitz University of Technology in Chemnitz, Germany.
