English Translation and Interpreting trains students to translate written texts and interpret spoken language between English and their native language, combining advanced language study with specialized translation theory and practice. Coursework typically covers linguistics, contrastive grammar, and the theory of translation, alongside practical modules in literary, technical, legal, and business translation that expose students to the different registers and conventions found across text types. Interpreting coursework builds skills in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, often supported by practice in language labs and simulated interpreting settings. Students also study terminology management and, increasingly, the use of computer-assisted translation tools that support professional translation workflows. As the program advances, students often specialize in particular translation domains, such as legal, medical, or literary translation, with many programs concluding in a translation project or thesis demonstrating professional-level competence. Graduates pursue careers as translators, interpreters, localization specialists, and language consultants, working for publishing houses, international organizations, government agencies, and private companies, with strong demand for skilled translators across many industries. This bachelor program is taught in English over a duration of 4 years at Afyon Kocatepe University, located in the city of Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. Instruction conducted in English gives students the sustained exposure to the language needed to reach the high proficiency required of professional translators and interpreters. Over the four years at Afyon Kocatepe University, coursework moves from foundational language and linguistics study toward specialized translation and interpreting practice, building the technical vocabulary and precision expected of graduates entering the profession.
