German Language Teaching prepares students to teach German as a foreign language, combining study of the German language itself with pedagogy, linguistics, and educational methods. Typical coursework includes German grammar, phonetics, and composition, German literature and culture, second-language acquisition theory, teaching methodology, curriculum design, and classroom practice, often including supervised teaching placements. Students develop strong proficiency in German alongside the pedagogical skills needed to plan lessons, assess learners, and manage a classroom. Graduates typically pursue careers as German language teachers in schools or language institutes, as well as roles in curriculum development, educational publishing, or translation, and some continue into graduate study in education, linguistics, or German studies. The discipline suits students who enjoy language learning and want to help others acquire a new language. This bachelor's program in German Language Teaching is offered at Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir, Turkey, and instruction is conducted in German across a four-year course of study. Teaching the program in German gives students sustained, immersive exposure to the language they are training to teach, which supports the fluency expected of future language educators. Over the four years, the curriculum typically builds German language proficiency in the early years before shifting toward teaching methodology, practicum placements, and pedagogy-focused coursework in later years. İzmir, a major coastal city in western Turkey, hosts the university's campus, and the German-medium format is intended to prepare graduates for teaching careers requiring strong command of the German language.
