YUHAN UNIVERSITY

Industrial Design Major

Bucheon, South Korea Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Industrial Design Major is an associate-level, English-taught program at Yuhan University in Bucheon, South Korea. Industrial design is a discipline concerned with the form, function, and usability of manufactured products, ranging from household appliances and furniture to electronics and consumer goods. Coursework in programs of this kind typically covers sketching and rendering techniques, three-dimensional modeling, materials and manufacturing processes, ergonomics, and design software, giving students the tools to move a product idea from an initial concept through to a manufacturable design. Students often work on design projects that require balancing aesthetic considerations with practical constraints such as cost, materials, and how a product will actually be produced and used, learning to present and defend design decisions through sketches, models, and prototypes. Because industrial design sits at the intersection of creativity and engineering, programs in this field commonly draw students interested in both visual design and the practical process of bringing physical products to market. South Korea has a strong consumer electronics and manufacturing sector, and studying industrial design there places students close to companies that design and produce a wide range of consumer products. Graduates typically pursue roles such as junior product designers, design assistants, or entry-level positions within design studios, manufacturing companies, or in-house design teams at consumer product companies. The program runs for two to three academic years and admits new students every March and September, following the standard South Korean academic calendar for international applicants. As an English-taught program, students can follow lectures and design coursework without needing advanced Korean proficiency at the outset, though working within Korean design and manufacturing companies after graduation typically benefits from continued Korean language development alongside design skills.
