Industrial Engineering focuses on designing and improving the systems and processes that organizations use to produce goods and deliver services efficiently. Coursework covers operations research, production planning, quality management, supply chain and logistics, and statistics, alongside optimization methods used to improve efficiency and reduce waste in manufacturing and service operations. Students learn to model complex systems mathematically, analyze data to identify inefficiencies, and design improved processes that balance cost, quality, and productivity. Coursework in facility layout, work-system design, and ergonomics teaches students how physical workspaces and workflows affect productivity and safety, while simulation software is often used to model and test process changes before they are implemented.
