Bridging the gap between fundamental laboratory research and real-world industrial impact is a critical challenge for modern doctoral training. The Wessex One Health (WOH) Doctoral Landscape Programme addresses this by integrating professional internships and collaborative research partnerships directly into the PhD experience.

Students are supported in navigating diverse professional landscapes, gaining exposure to sectors including policy, media, public engagement, and technical industry. The programme is designed to broaden horizons beyond the academic bubble, ensuring that doctoral researchers develop a robust, transferable skill set that enhances their future employability.

The WOH Placement Portfolio

The programme offers two distinct pathways for professional development:

• Professional Internships for PhD Students (PIPs): These 3-month placements allow students to step outside their core research area to explore roles in regulatory bodies, marketing, or public health, fostering personal growth and professional versatility.
• CASE Studentships: For those seeking a deeper integration, these partnerships provide enhanced training directly related to the student's specific project, facilitating collaboration with technology firms, hospitals, and charities.

By engaging with high-profile industry partners—ranging from biotechnology leaders like Illumina to conservation-focused organizations like Marwell Zoo—WOH students graduate with a uniquely comprehensive perspective on scientific application and professional practice.
