International students join a diverse community representing many countries and receive dedicated services for admissions, visa guidance and academic support. The university’s commitment to widening participation creates a welcoming environment with additional mentoring and career guidance. Living and studying in London offers unparalleled internship and networking opportunities, and graduates leave with practical experience and city-based connections that support transition into professional roles both locally and internationally.

Recognised for excellence in design education, London Metropolitan University offers a BA (Hons) Interior Design with a foundation year, consistently ranked among the top courses in the UK. This four-year degree is specifically crafted for students who are passionate about spatial design but may lack the traditional academic qualifications or portfolio experience to enter directly into an undergraduate programme. By embedding a preparatory foundation year, the course bridges the gap, allowing students to develop essential technical, creative, and critical skills in a supportive, studio-led environment.

A Diagnostic Approach to Design

The foundation year is designed to be both diagnostic and exploratory. You will share space with a diverse cohort of creative students, fostering interdisciplinary perspectives that enrich your own practice. Throughout the year, you will engage in:

• Critical & Contextual Studies: Developing the research, writing, and analytical skills necessary for higher education.
• Creative Practice: Exploring materiality, visual narratives, and the fundamental theories behind successful interior spaces.
• Studio Projects: Gaining hands-on experience in workshops, using London as a primary site for research and inspiration.

Upon successfully completing this year, you will join the mainstream three-year cohort, graduating with the same prestigious degree title as your peers. This pathway provides a secure transition into professional design, ensuring you possess the confidence, portfolio, and theoretical grounding to succeed in the cultural, social, and commercial sectors of interior design.
