The Master's in International Energy Engineering (MEng) at OTH Amberg-Weiden is a three-semester programme conducted entirely in English, focused on the engineering dimensions of environmentally friendly energy supply. Students gain knowledge in resource-saving energy generation, energy conversion, energy management, storage, and distribution, and examine energy sources including solar power, wind and water power, biomass, and biotechnology for energy production. The first two semesters combine a small number of compulsory modules — Simulation of Energy Systems, Scientific Research and Methods, and International Energy Law and Energy Economics — with a wide catalogue of elective modules. These include Hydrogen Technology, Solar Energy, Bioenergy, Wind and Hydropower, Energy Storage, Energy Efficiency, Energy Management with AI Methods, Concepts of Combined Heat Power and Cooling, Sustainable Building Technology, and Sustainable Mobility. Students with a Bachelor's degree of 180 credit points may complete a supplementary semester to earn the additional credits required, making the programme four semesters in those cases. The third semester (or fourth, where applicable) is reserved for the Master's thesis. Additional subjects in environmental law, innovation management, and communication complement the technical content. The programme is based at OTH Amberg-Weiden in Amberg, with intake in both the winter and summer semesters.
