Bachelor in Licence - Arts plastiques

The Licence - Arts plastiques (Bachelor in Visual Arts) at Université de Lorraine, UFR Arts, Lettres et Langues in Metz, France, is a three-year bachelor-level program exploring the theory, history, and practice of visual art. The discipline encompasses drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video and audiovisual creation, installation, performance, and digital art forms, studied alongside the critical and theoretical frameworks through which contemporary artistic production is understood and evaluated by artists, curators, and scholars. Students develop technical skills across a range of media through regular studio practice, and build the conceptual vocabulary needed to engage critically with their own work and with the broader history of art. Art history and aesthetics provide the philosophical and historical context for studio work, connecting contemporary practice to the long traditions of Western and non-Western visual culture. The program encourages reflection on the social roles of art alongside technical production. Graduates pursue careers in art education, cultural mediation and museum education, gallery management, graphic design, visual communication, and artistic creation. Many continue to a master's program in fine arts, art history, or visual communication to develop their practice or critical expertise further. The program starts in September, runs for three years, and carries a yearly tuition of 178 EUR. Instruction is conducted in French.
