Bachelor in Licence - Histoire

Tuition fees are 178 EUR per year.

History is the systematic study of the past through the critical analysis of sources, documents, and traces left by earlier societies. The Licence in Histoire at Université Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès in Toulouse, France is a bachelor-level degree that trains students in historical method and exposes them to a broad range of periods, geographies, and historiographical approaches. Coursework typically spans ancient, medieval, early modern, and contemporary history, with attention to both French and world history. Students learn to locate, read, and critically evaluate primary sources alongside secondary literature, and to produce historical writing that situates arguments within the discipline's ongoing debates. The programme takes 3 years, beginning in September, with teaching conducted in French. Tuition is 178 EUR per year. History graduates work in education, research, archives, cultural heritage, the media, publishing, public administration, and the cultural sector more broadly. The discipline is also seen as excellent preparation for competitive examinations in France — including those for teaching and senior civil service roles. Many students continue to master's level in history, archival science, or related fields. Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès has a long-standing humanities tradition that makes it a fitting context for historical study.
