The Licence — Histoire (History) at Université Clermont Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand, France is a three-year undergraduate degree taught entirely in French. History as a discipline trains students to analyse sources, reconstruct past events and structures, and situate them within broader social, economic, cultural, and political contexts. Study typically spans ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, and may include historiography, archival methods, and the history of ideas. Students develop strong skills in research, critical reading, and written argumentation. Career paths are varied: teaching (after further qualifications), archival and heritage work, journalism, publishing, the civil service, and museum professions all draw on history graduates. Many students continue to a master's in history or in related applied fields. The programme starts in September and runs for 3 years at 178 EUR per year.
