Bachelor in Licence - Histoire

Tuition fees are 178 EUR per year.

History at university level is the systematic study of the human past through primary sources, historiography, and critical analysis. A Licence Histoire covers a broad chronological and thematic range — ancient civilisations, the medieval period, early modern Europe, the age of revolutions, the twentieth century, and colonial and post-colonial histories — while also introducing students to the methods of historical inquiry: archival research, source criticism, the interpretation of material and visual evidence, and engagement with competing scholarly interpretations. Students develop skills in reading and synthesising complex texts, constructing reasoned arguments grounded in evidence, and writing clearly about complicated events and processes across different scales and periods. These transferable competences make history graduates attractive to a wide range of employers and professional contexts. Career directions include journalism, heritage and museum work, teaching, the civil service, publishing, law, archival management, and cultural project management. Many graduates continue to a master's programme in history, archival studies, cultural heritage, or a related social science. Université de Caen Normandie offers this Licence Histoire in Caen, a city in the Normandy region with significant historical associations. The degree runs for 3 years, starts in September, and instruction is entirely in French. Annual tuition is 178 EUR, the regulated rate for French public universities.
